Blind Barrels Release XI: Legends of the Fall Sample C
Intro
Sometimes a pour waits for the right moment, and tonight felt like the one. I’ve had this Blind Barrels “Legends of the Fall” set sitting on the shelf since Christmas, courtesy of my brother-in-law (solid gift game, by the way). After spending time with Samples A and B, Sample C’s been calling my name. No expectations, no spoilers—just me, the glass, and whatever surprises are packed inside. Let’s see where this one takes us.
Mystery Bourbon Review
Something about this time of year begs for a good pour—whether it’s the falling temps at night, longer days, or just a built-in excuse to slow down and sip something with a little backbone. Sample C from Blind Barrels Release 11, “Legends of the Fall,” had me curious from the jump. No label, no hints—just a glass full of mystery and the promise of something bold. Let’s dive in and see if it delivers that springtime magic we’re all quietly chasing.
The Pour:
Golden amber, like late autumn sunshine dripping into your glass. I poured it neat because I like my mystery with no ice and no apologies. It clung to the glass with some thick legs—slow and steady, like it knew it was worth the wait.
The Nose:
First sniff? Pow! Spicy rye jumps out like it’s ready to party. There’s cinnamon, a little nutmeg, and something like a toasted marshmallow that wandered too close to a campfire. I swear I caught a hint of mint? Or maybe that was just the ghost of my last cocktail.
The Sip:
Oh, hello, flavor! This one's bold but not pushy—sweet caramel rolls in first, then the rye spice punches through like a late plot twist. There’s a bit orange peel bitterness and some dark chocolate bitterness that made me feel like I should’ve been sipping this with a blazer in a library somewhere.
The Finish:
Medium-long with a bit of heat on the backend, but not the kind that makes you rethink your choices. It lingers like a good story—peppery and warm with just a hint of sweet oak. I could see this one becoming a cold-weather staple. A sipper, not a chugger.
Final Thoughts (a.k.a. The Reveal):
Honestly, I thought this was a fancy high-rye bourbon at first—something trying to impress the judges but still playing it cool. But nope! This bad boy turned out to be a straight rye whiskey—and not just any rye. It was Stock Exchange Club of Los Angeles Private Reserve Straight Rye Whiskey, from the ever-creative minds R6 Distillery out of El Segundo, CA.
R6 Distillery is a veteran and family-owned craft operation blending tradition with a West Coast twist. Founded by Rob Rubens, R6 produces small-batch spirits including bourbon, rye, and gin, all made from grain to glass in-house. Known for bold flavors and creative finishes, R6 stands out with a rebellious spirit that’s as smooth as it is strong—think classic American whiskey with a bit of California cool.
Stay tuned—Sample D's review is coming your way soon!
Cheers to a dram good time! 🥃✨
